Johnson actions bemuse father

Gary Johnson did not know whether to laugh or cry when son Lee committed a comedy footballing faux-pas at Boundary Park.

In the first father and son managerial encounter since the 1970s and only the second in English professional history, Yeovil boss Gary could only watch on as Oldham counterpart Lee strode onto the pitch and kicked the ball - while it was still in play. "A couple of times I wanted to tell Lee to calm down," said Johnson snr after Tuesday's clash. "When he controlled the ball on the pitch I thought 'what the hell are you doing?' "I didn't know whether to scream, shout, laugh or cry." In the end though, Lee had the last laugh thanks to Matt Smith's goal in first-half stoppage time that sealed a 1-0 win for Oldham. The result virtually ended Yeovil's hopes of automatic promotion, while at the same time taking Oldham to the brink of survival.
