Johnson praise for Winchester

Carl Winchester's performances this season have been dubbed "Championship-class at least" by Oldham boss Lee Johnson.

The 21-year-old midfielder is enjoying an extended run in Latics' first team this season after being a bit-part figure in the previous League One campaign, during which he made just 13 appearances. And, after three wins and three clean sheets in eight days, Johnson was quick to pay tribute to Winchester's improvement this term. "He's been superb," Johnson said. "He's got himself going and we've got him going as a club. We've looked after him because we've always believed in him. "I think his biggest problem last year was his pre-season; he never really got right all the way through the season physically. "But this summer we've had him on a regime to bulk him up and get his fitness right. He's had a really good pre-season and I think he's been Championship-class at least since the start of the season."
