Carlisle have offered a short-term contract to former Manchester City defender Courtney Meppen-Walter.

The former England Under-19s captain, who has penned a one-month deal, has been training with the Cumbrians in a bid to kickstart his career after serving a prison sentence for causing the death of two people in a car accident. "We have spoken to Courtney and we're hoping that it's all agreed," manager Graham Kavanagh told the club's official website. "There should be more news on that even though we haven't had a definite yes off him yet. "His agent has said that everything will be fine with what has been offered so it's an opportunity for him to come and play some games. "He has tremendous potential as a footballer and it's now a case of us dragging that out of him." Meppen-Walter pleaded guilty in February to causing death by careless driving and was sentenced to 16 months in jail and banned for three years after his Mercedes ploughed into a Nissan Micra killing a brother and sister. The 19-year-old's contract with Manchester City was terminated.
