Skipper urges Rovers riposte

Captain John Welsh insists Tranmere need to take the positives from Saturday's defeat to Sheffield Wednesday and bounce back away to Exeter.

Rovers were more than a match for the high-flying Owls at Prenton Park and took the lead through on-loan forward Jose Baxter, who Rovers this week hope to tie down on an extended stay as they enter talks with parent club Everton. But the visitors hit back twice, the first just before half-time, to claim the spoils 2-1 and leave Tranmere reeling, although skipper Welsh insists there is plenty to be upbeat about going into this weekend's trip to St James Park. "We played so well in the first half and to not at least come in at 1-0 up was disappointing," Welsh told the club's official website. "That was a changing point in the game. Conceding just before half-time put us on the back foot in the second half. We knew they had good individuals who could come off the bench and it showed in the second half. "But we need to take the positives, learn from it and take it into the next game. We've got a good group of lads who will get around each other and cheer everyone up and come Saturday at three O'clock we'll be back at it."
