Port Vale youngster Sam Morsy has vowed to repay Jim Gannon's trust in him by claiming a regular starting position.

The midfielder, who had made just two first-team appearances for the Valiants before the now-departed Gannon's arrival, was handed seven starts and two substitute appearances during the 42-year-old's ill-fated 75-day reign. "Jim Gannon showed confidence in me and helped me improve my game," Morsy told The Sentinel. "He brought me into the team - and there was no pressure on him to do that. "He's taken some unfair criticism. He's a very intelligent man, but it didn't happen for him here. "Now it's up to me to keep my place and work hard under the new management team."
