New Northampton signing Byron Webster believes the Cobblers stand a good chance of being promoted next season.

Webster, who signed a two-year deal at Sixfields on Tuesday after being released from Doncaster, admitted he is taking a bit of a gamble by dropping two divisions to League Two but is confident that this time next year Northampton will be looking forward to life in the third tier. The 24-year-old, who spent the last two months of the season with the Cobblers on, loan said: "It's good to be here, as we have been negotiating for a while. "The manager has spoken to me and he doesn't want to stay in this league. He wants to get up to league one and that's all I needed to hear. "I could have easily gone to another club and pick up my wage and plod along in League Two or wherever, but that is not what I'm all about. I want to progress, firstly for myself, and also to help Northampton."
