Yates bemoans penalty call

Cheltenham boss Mark Yates felt his side were denied a clear-cut penalty in Friday night's goalless draw at Morecambe.

In a game played in swirling snow and wind, both sides struggled to create chances as both defences remained very much on top. The main talking point of the game was a first-half penalty claim when Sam Deering went down under a challenge from Shrimps midfielder Andy Fleming, but the referee waved play on, much to the frustration of Robins boss Mark Yates. He said: "It was a definite penalty, no question about it, but we didn't get it and we have to move on. "It was a difficult evening in difficult conditions and I was delighted with the effort of the lads. "Some of them struggled to get to the coach to even make the journey here and it was a long trip in poor weather conditions but we showed a great fighting spirit that I was pleased with. "We have been conceding too many goals away from home recently but we looked solid all evening and I can't really remember Scott Brown having any difficult saves to make. "We had the best chances to win the game and if anyone was going to take the three points I thought it was going to be us."
