Iron's Ryan steps up recovery

Image: Ryan: Hopes for swift return

Jimmy Ryan will return to action for the first time in almost three months for Scunthorpe on Wednesday night.

The midfielder has not played since salvaging a late 2-2 draw at Walsall in mid-September having suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury. Ryan returned to training at the start of this week and immediately signalled his desire to play at least some part in the club's reserve fixture against Gateshead. Manager Alan Knill told the Iron's official website: "Jimmy was the one who came to us and said he wanted to play. He came back into training on Monday and looked really bright. "Our initial thoughts were to ease him through the week in training, but Jimmy knows his body and feels he can play a part." Fit-again forward Jordan Robertson is also set to feature in the fixture having stepped off the bench to play the closing stages of Scunthorpe's 3-2 defeat to Notts County last time out, his first minutes since the opening day.
