Spireites keen on Cresswell

Chesterfield have confirmed their interest in Southend defender Ryan Cresswell.

Rotherham-born Cresswell is looking to leave the Shrimpers and return to the north but he remains under contract at Roots Hall. Spireites boss Paul Cook has been in contact with his counterpart Phil Brown and the two clubs remain in discussions about the 25-year-old centre-half, who has been the subject of bids from Chesterfield's League Two rivals Fleetwood. Turner told BBC Radio Sheffield: "He is a player we have been targeting this summer and Paul Cook has spoken to Phil Brown on numerous occasions this summer. "Fleetwood have made a couple of offers for him which have been turned down and I can understand why Southend don't want to let him go because he was one of the best centre-halves in League Two last season. "They want to keep him but the boy has intimated that he wants to move back home. "From our point of view, we will just have to see what happens when the dust settles. Southend know of our interest and the boy wants to come back up north, whether that is Chesterfield we will have to wait and see but he is one that Paul (Cook) is very, very interested in."
