Newport have opened an investigation into incidents which occurred in the latter stages of their Sky Bet League Two fixture against Blackpool on Saturday.

During the Exiles' 3-1 defeat against the Seasiders, objects - allegedly sweets and bottles - were thrown from the Hazel Stand into the technical area.

The Welsh club have confirmed that a 13-year-old boy has been arrested and charged for throwing an object and will consequently face a ban.

A volunteer was struck by the object and Newport have consulted the Football Association, Gwent Police, Blackpool and the EFL about further repercussions.

Blackpool boss Gary Bowyer claimed he was struck on the lip by an object as he celebrated Bright Osayi-Samuel's stoppage-time goal which sealed victory at Rodney Parade.

Bowyer said after the game: "You can't have that, it has no place in football. The FA has to act, it is as simple as that. Newport County have to act as well. I haven't seen anything like it.

"It is a disgrace, an absolute disgrace. That was horrific and out of order. You should not see scenes like that, we were just celebrating the win with the third goal. Then the missiles came, hard-boiled sweets, bottles, there was a lack of stewarding.

"One hit me right on the lip, action has to be taken. You can't have that. If that hits someone in the eye, you're in trouble. It is disgraceful."
