Aldershot have released their captain Anthony Charles, who is out of contract and still recovering from a knee injury.

The 30-year-old defender made 229 appearances for the Shots. Boss Dean Holdsworth told the club's official website: "Anthony has had his knee repaired during the summer and we have honoured his contract. We have also paid for the operation and done some rehabilitation work with him. "The unfortunate side of football is that Anthony's contract has expired and as a duty of care we have paid him up until the end of July and done the right thing by him. "As far as the club is concerned we have done everything right. We are not in a luxury position to offer contracts to players that are injured long term. "He has been an excellent servant for Aldershot and we wish him well for the future."
