Virgo injury blow for Rovers

Bristol Rovers defender Adam Virgo will undergo surgery to repair a severe knee injury and could miss the entire season.

Virgo, who only joined the Pirates this summer, sustained cartilage damage in training and will now undergo an operation. The full extent of the damage is not yet known, but manager Paul Buckle is fearing the worst for the 28-year-old as his side's injury problems mount up. "It is a real mysterious one," he told the club's official website. "He trained in the morning and in the evening his knee had swollen up really badly. "In the worst-case scenario he could be out for the rest of the season, best-case scenario a few months. "Just when we think we are getting on the road to recovery with the players, we get this bad news. We wish him well in his operation."
