Richards keen to play Robins

Bristol Rovers forward Eliot Richards wants manager Paul Buckle to select him for this weekend's local derby with Swindon.

The striker hopes his two-goal cameo in the FA Cup win at AFC Totton on Sunday will put him at the forefront of Buckle's selection thoughts. Richards made his eighth substitute appearance of the term at Totton, netting twice late on to secure the Pirates' passage into round three and a lucrative televised tie against Aston Villa. And now he is keeping his fingers crossed that he gets the nod to start against Swindon on Saturday. He told the Bristol Evening Post: "Luckily I had the chance to come on early at Totton because the gaffer was worried Mustapha Carayol might get sent off. "He put me on and I was able to do my stuff. At half-time everyone wanted to get on the scoresheet and get more goals, and luckily the chances fell to me. "I've come off the bench before this season and scored, so now I just have to keep proving myself, get in the gaffer's thoughts and hopefully get a place in the starting XI."
