Shrews' Sharps to shirk surgery

Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner is hopeful his captain Ian Sharps will not need surgery on a nagging thigh and groin issue.

The 30-year-old central defender was taken off with the problem in the first leg of Town's play-off semi-final with Torquay. But the Shrews' player-of-the-year returned for the second leg to remind his manager why losing him to surgery would be a blow. "The specialist who saw Ian will continue to give him some treatment over the summer," Turner told the Shropshire Star. "But he is confident that surgery won't be required which is good news for us."
