Scunthorpe manager Alan Knill has hinted striker Garry Thompson might not be handed a new contract in the summer.
The Football League's salary cap will mean a reduced budget next season and Knill suggested Thompson's recent injury record meant the 31-year-old would not represent the best value for money. "We're all well aware of what Garry Thompson can do," Knill told the club's official website. "With any player, you're looking at value for money. You want your players to play at least 30 games a season. "I'm no different to any other manager. We're not going to have a big squad and we need players to be fit all the time. Sometimes you can't help it, but what we're looking at is for players to be as fit as possible all the time. "To be fair to Garry, he's been fit for most of the season. He had a good pre-season and then had a slight groin problem, but it wasn't the same [injury as the one which ruled him out for most of last season] and then something else. "He's been fitter this season than last year though."
