Bury have completed the signing of striker Ryan Lowe from Tranmere for an undisclosed fee.

The 35-year-old, who scored 20 goals during his sole season with Rovers, has signed a two-year deal and returns to Gigg Lane for a second spell having netted 53 goals in 97 appearances between 2009 and 2011. Following Lowe's departure Tranmere chief executive Jeremy Butler wished their top scorer all the best and explained why they did not offer him a new two-year deal. "We gave Ryan a two-year contract 12 months ago and were expecting him to remain with us for the length of that contract," he told the club's official website. "Since the season ended, Ryan has spoken publicly about his need to sign a new extended contract. We do not feel it is prudent for Tranmere Rovers to give a 35-year-old player an improved two-year contract when he still has 12 months left to run on his current deal. "We feel the fee Bury are paying for Ryan is excellent value for this football club and the money will be put into the budget to sign new players for next season."
