Sheffield United have extended James Beattie's short-term deal until the end of the League One season.

The former Everton, Stoke and Rangers striker returned for a second spell at Bramall Lane in November, but injury and illness have impacted on his fitness and restricted him to seven substitute appearances. Manager Danny Wilson told the club's official website: "He's a quality player. We're delighted to have him for what he brings us on and off the pitch." Beattie, 33, who scored 34 goals in 60 starts in his first spell for the Blades between 2007 and 2009, is suspended for the next three games after being sent off for violent conduct at Charlton last weekend.
