Joyce: Youngsters will shine

Luke Joyce believes Accrington's youthful squad are dealing well with the pressures of a potential League Two relegation battle.

Stanley sit three points above the drop zone but claimed a vital goalless draw at fellow strugglers Plymouth last weekend. Reds skipper Joyce said: "Everyone's s dealing with it quite well to be honest. We've got a young squad and a lot of the lads have never really played week-in, week out league football, never mind being involved in a bit of a battle at the bottom of the league. "So I think we've just got to go at it the best we can and look after ourselves, not hope for any favours from anybody else and do as much as we can to get the results we need." And Joyce feels a clean sheet last time out gives Leam Richardson's side a foundation to build upon ahead of Saturday's tough trip to high-flying Port Vale. He added: "We looked strong at the back, we defended well and when we did come under pressure, as you do when you're playing away from home, I think we stuck to it well. "We defended well, not just as a back four, but as a team and we looked strong. Hopefully we can take confidence from that and build on it as we go into a tough game on Saturday."
