Chamberlain restores some pride

Macclesfield caretaker-boss Glyn Chamberlain was pleased his side had restored some pride despite going down 2-0 at Southend.

The Shrimpers saw off bottom-of-the-table Macclesfield with goals from Peter Gilbert and Neil Harris, but Chamberlain was upbeat despite the result meaning the Silkman had not won in 25 games. "I told the players that they had a duty to the Football League, the club, the supporters and to themselves as professional footballers and they did me proud," he said. "There was a great atmosphere in the stadium and there was no pressure on us. I just wanted us to show some pride, courage and to perform, and I thought they did. "If I had a criticism it was that we did not do enough in the last third, but I could say that for the last 46 games. "It would have been nice to have played some of the younger players ahead of next season, but in the back of my mind I knew this was going to be a party day for Southend and we wanted to put our strongest team out."
