Gulls swoop to snap up Howe

Torquay have swooped to secure the services of striker Rene Howe on a two-year deal.

Howe moves to Plainmoor on a free transfer following his release from Peterborough and manager Martin Ling believes he will prove a big hit. "He is 6ft 2ins and a physical presence," said Ling. "(Chris) Zebroski has been here for the last few years and Rene is who I see as the replacement. "We need a physical presence to lead the line and he is an athletic player who can get round the pitch. Nowadays, you don't get strikers that just hold the centre of the pitch and not move. "He can get on to balls over the top with his pace and power. He has decent record of scoring goals in League One and Two, and I've done my homework on him. "I've watched him play on numerous occasions and also checked out with the managers he has played for. I am more than happy with him joining us as a main striker."
