Westley upbeat despite drop

Graham Westley was happy with Stevenage's 3-2 win over Walsall, despite having to prepare for life in League Two.

Winger Luke Freeman netted the winner eight minutes from time as already-relegated Boro came from 2-1 down with Jo N'Guessan equalising during a busy start to the second half. Jimmy Smith had got Stevenage going in the first half prior to the three goals to begin the second with Malvind Benning and Craig Westcarr scoring within four minutes of each other for Walsall. And, with the pressure of potentially ending the season on a long losing run now lifted off his shoulders, Stevenage boss Westley insists the mood around Broadhall Way will be very different. "It's a strange feeling winning at home," said Westley. "Unfortunately, it's been a long hard season and a real trial for the fans, who again were here for us. "I'm delighted that the boys have given them something to smile about going into the summer. I think the most important thing was that there was some energy to want to win the game. "There was a work rate, there were lads giving their all and I'm sure there will be senior players looking at some of the work rate of some of the kids and thinking did I really give as much as that when I was called upon when the burden was on my shoulders? "I think the young lads showed a work ethic, a togetherness, a spirit and a fight. I think Jimmy [Smith] has been brilliant for us this season. "He's been a real man about things, he's not been happy being in a losing side but he's knuckled down every day and set really high standards."
