Crawley boss lauds lady luck

Crawley boss Richie Barker admitted his side had finally enjoyed a slice of luck after securing their first win in eight games.

Crawley manager Richie Barker admitted his side had finally enjoyed a slice of luck after securing their first win in eight games by coming from behind to beat Stevenage 2-1. After a goalless first half, Robin Shroot edged Boro ahead in the 55th minute before a quick-fire double turned the contest on its head. Hope Akpan slotted home on the rebound after 65 minutes before Dannie Bulman's 69th minute strike took a wicked deflection and left Stevenage with just one win in six games. Crawley are now just two points shy of a play-off place in 10th and, after a miserable run, Barker believes his side now have a spring back in their step. "All that has been missing in the last couple of weeks was a bit of luck, and that bit of luck, as it happens, came," he said. "I still think it was what we deserved. "I thought it was going to be another one of those days where I would be standing here and saying we deserved to get something out of the game but we didn't. "And I was almost thinking, round about the time they scored, it has probably got 0-0 written all over it. "The first half was a bit of a stalemate. I thought that they were waiting for us to make a mistake. "You can see already the players' confidence is lifted, which is a positive. And despite the fact it was seven without a win, I think we're still only three or four defeats in 15. And we're not a million miles away from being back in the play-offs."
