Worthy ready for leaders

York's clash with League Two leaders Oxford at Bootham Crescent this weekend holds no fears for boss Nigel Worthington.

The Minstermen are looking over their shoulders at the bottom end of the table heading into the Christmas fixture list, but draws against Chesterfield and Rochdale this season and a recent 4-1 win over Scunthorpe suggest Worthington's side can compete with the promotion-chasers. "Oxford have done very well during the first half of the season and are sitting at the top, but I'm looking at it as a great challenge," Worthington said. "We've done very well against top teams at home and what we would like is another good performance in front of our own fans that could set us up for a good run over Christmas." York, two points above the relegation zone in 20th place, have drawn six and lost two of their last eight league games, but Worthington remains optimistic for the second half of the season. "It's a fine line between winning and not winning matches and if we can get to where we want to be we will be flying," he added. "Performance-wise, up to now, the work ethic and attitude of the players has been first class. "We're not a million miles away, we maybe need a little tweak here and there."
