Edinburgh: The best so far

Justin Edinburgh hailed his side's best performance of the season after Newport beat Southend 3-1.

Goals from Conor Washington, Andrew Hughes and Ismail Yakubu moved County up to seventh in League Two - just three points behind league leaders Oxford. Edinburgh said: "I am absolutely delighted with that performance. "We were excellent and if it wasn't for their goalkeeper we could have won by a much bigger margin. "From start to finish that was the best I've seen us play this season. "The way we pressed, we didn't allow them any possession and when we had the ball we looked very dangerous. "I thought we controlled it very, very well against a team who have done very well away from home. "But with our front two working as hard as they do we are going to stretch many teams this season. "We know we are going to give any team a real game at home and I thought it was a superb team performance. "It's turned out to be a very good week, seven points from nine and three points off the top of the league. "I am very happy with the start we have made, we have been very competitive and we seem to be growing in confidence. "We've still got a few players to come back from injury and we are going to be a stronger outfit as the season goes on."
