Jordan Spieth suffered an early exit from the AT&T Byron Nelson, with one horror hole a key catalyst in him missing the cut for the second time in as many weeks.

The two-time major champion made a steady start to the week and was four off the pace following an opening-round 68, only to see his challenge unravel during the second round in Texas.

Spieth mixed three birdies with four bogeys on his way to reaching the turn in 36, before cancelling out a gain at the par-four 10th with a blemish at the 12th.

The real damage came later at the par-five 16th, where Spieth sprayed two tee shots out of bounds and hit his third effort - his fifth shot - into the rough way right of the fairway.

After hacking back out on to the landing strip with his sixth stroke, Spieth found the green with his next but watch it roll down the slope into the fringe.

Spieth putted up the slope to two feet before eventually tapping for a quadruple-bogey nine, equalling his highest-ever score posted on a hole in his PGA Tour career.
