Big names to tee it up in both South Africa and America

Some big names have arrived in South Africa for the 30th staging of the Nedbank Challenge at Sun City. Nedbank/Chevron stats package World No.1 Lee Westwood is in town, along with Open champion Louis Oosthuizen and two of South Africa's 'elder statesmen' Ernie Els and Retief Goosen. Three-time major winner Padraig Harrington is also in a field that yields three Sun City debutants - Oosthuizen, Anders Hansen and Edoardo Molinari. First held in 1981, this week's event will share $5m between just 12 golfers. The winner collects $1.25m while the player who finishes last is guaranteed $250k. One member of this week's field - Miguel Angel Jimenez - has played in the tournament three times. On each occasion he has failed to finish above any of his fellow competitors, yet his 12 rounds in the tournament have earned him $450k.

Tiger hosts Chevron

On the other side of the Atlantic, the Chevron World Challenge has a slightly larger field of 18, and also offers more than $1m to the winner. Hosted by world number two Tiger Woods and played at Sherwood Country Club since 2000, this year's event has attracted a field that is probably even stronger than the one at Sun City, featuring the likes of US Open champion Graeme McDowell and his Ryder Cup team-mates Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald and Ian Poulter. Woods and Fed-Ex Cup winner Jim Furyk are also playing in California, along with a host of leading young Americans.

So who are likely to shine at each of the venues?

SUN CITY: Tim Clark: Third last year, the diminutive South African is the reigning Players champion from Sawgrass. Ernie Els: Returns to Sun City after a three-year gap. Is a three-time winner of the tournament, with four runner-up finishes as well. Lee Westwood: Despite his limited playing schedule in recent months due to injury, the Englishman still turns in a good performance every time he tees-up. He was beaten in a Sun City play-off 10 years ago. SHERWOOD: Jim Furyk: Officially the leading American golfer of 2010 and tees-up at Sherwood as the reigning champion. Tiger Woods is the only player in this week's field to have played in the tournament more times. Rory McIlroy: Finished strongly last week in Dubai where he was fifth - two strokes behind champion Robert Karlsson. Tiger Woods: Although this tournament is not an official PGA Tour event, a victory at Sherwood would provide Tiger with a massive confidence boost as he prepares for 2011. And his record here is second to none. In eight appearances he has lifted the trophy four times, and finished runner-up on three other occasions.
