Brandt Snedeker admitted he thought his hopes of Farmers Insurance Open victory were over before he claimed an unexpected win at Torrey Pines.

The world No 24, who described conditions as like 'playing an Open Championship on a US Open set up', didn't have to play a shot during a weather-delayed fifth day and was the only player to break par in the final round.

Snedeker only just made the cut and went in to Sunday six shots off the pace, but produced a remarkable 69 in brutal weather during the final round as those around him struggled in the wind and rain.

That set the clubhouse target at six under before play was abandoned for the day, with none of the 49 players returning on Monday able to match his total as Snedeker claimed a one-shot victory.

"I can't tell you how excited I am to be the champion again and how unbelievable the last 48 hours have been," Snedeker said. "Everything worked out perfectly for me.

"You cannot make up the extreme events that had to happen for me to have this chance. They all fell in line for me perfectly. I hate watching this stuff because I am in no control.

"I wish we could play all year out here on the West Coast because I play fantastic and love being out here.
