Sarah Stirk and Wayne Riley reflect on Jason Day's fine performance

Wayne Riley believes Jason Day has the potential to deliver Tiger Woods-esque dominance in golf after continuing his fine run of form at the Players Championship.

The world No 1 rarely looked threatened on his way to a wire-to-wire victory at TPC Sawgrass, finishing four strokes clear of nearest challenger Kevin Chappell.

Day made a fast start to the tournament by equalling the course record with a nine-under 63 and dug deep over the weekend in tougher scoring conditions to maintain his advantage.

A seventh victory in 17 starts extends the Australian's advantage at the top of the world rankings, with Riley expecting more big things from the 28-year-old in the years ahead.

"Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy should be worried, as this guy is a serious player," Riley told Sky Sports. "He is like a volcano that was ready to erupt and it has erupted.

How Jason Day eased to victory

"This is a guy who is going to on and win a whole heap of majors, WGCs and championships like this. He is so focused on what he wants to achieve.

"He wants the trophies and to be the best player on the planet, but he also wants to the so far forward and so far in front of them all."
