Jim Furyk blazed his way into the record books as he fired the first 58 in PGA Tour history in the final round of the Travelers Championship.

Furyk's astonishing round at TPC River Highlands featured a hole-out from the fairway for eagle at the third as well as 10 birdies, including seven in a row around the turn.

The 46-year-old also became the first player to break 60 twice in an official PGA Tour event having been the last player to achieve the feat in the 2013 BMW Championship.

Highlights of the fourth day of action from the Travelers Championship.

A sublime 207-yard tee-shot to four feet set up another birdie at the fourth and, after a solid par at five, he two-putted from 25 feet at the long sixth to begin his incredible run of seven consecutive birdies.

Furyk missed his only fairway of the day at the seventh only to knock his second to three feet, and he rolled in another pinpoint putt at eight before almost holing out from the fairway for the second time in six holes at nine.

After becoming the 12th player to card 27 for nine holes, Furyk nailed further birdie putts from 14 and 17 feet at 10 and 11 respectively, and he moved to 11 under for the round when he converted another precise iron to three feet at the 12th.

Furyk walked away with "just a par" at the long 13th after knocking his third 30 feet beyond the flag, and he missed from 10 feet at the 14th before his eight-footer for birdie lipped out on the next.

But he put himself on course for the magical 58 when he drained his longest putt of the day from close to 25 feet at the short 16th, and he took no chances over the final two holes and settled for a pair of cast-iron par-fours.

Furyk tapped in at the last to complete only the seventh sub-60 round on the PGA Tour since Al Geiberger recorded the first in 1977, finishing his final round over an hour-and-a-half before the last pairing of Daniel Berger and Russell Knox had teed off.
