Tiger Woods comes agonisingly close to making a hole-in-one at the 12th on day two of the Hero World Challenge

Tiger Woods came within a few inches of making a spectacular hole-in-one just 30 holes into his comeback at the Hero World Challenge.

Woods was already four under for his second round as he launched a spirited recovery from his poor inward nine on day one, when he came home in 40 with double-bogeys at two of the last three holes.

The 14-time major winner has been in good touch with his irons in his first competitive outing since August last year, and he hit it close at both the eighth and 12th - both par-threes of over 200 yards - in the first round.

The 12th was ranked the toughest hole on the Albany layout on the opening day, but Woods almost brought the average score down significantly with a superb five-iron.

Tiger Woods bounced back from his erratic opening 73 to shoot a 65

Woods twirled his club after sending his ball right on target, and it pitched on the front of the green before rolling slowly towards the target.

His ball just ran out of pace and broke left of the cup, but he was left with a tap-in for birdie and he went on to pick up further shots at 14 and 15 in a flawless second-round 65 which lifted the tournament host to six under.
