Andrew Johnston is just two shots off the lead at the Puerto Rico Open after he fired a flawless 66 in the third round at Rio Grande.

Johnston birdied the final two holes and kept a bogey off his card in a superb six-under round which propelled him 17 places up the leaderboard and into a share of fourth place on 13 under par.

Chris Stroud edged into the outright lead after rolling in his fifth birdie putt of the day at the long 18th to cap a bogey-free 67, while his fellow Americans DA Points and Bill Lunde both shot 69 to be tied for second.

But most of the attention on the final day will be focused on the hugely-popular "Beef" after he cruised to the turn in 34 with back-to-back birdies at the fifth and sixth.

The PGA Tour rookie picked up further shots at 10 and 13, and his impressive finish briefly earned him the lead in the clubhouse until he was surpassed by Stroud, Points and Lunde.

Johnston, whose round matched the best score of the day, is part of a six-way tied for fourth along with former US Amateur champion Bryson DeChambeau, who shared the lead overnight and made a fast start to his third round when he birdied the opening two holes.

But DeChambeau then bogeyed three of the next five holes before he rallied after the turn, making four birdies against one further dropped shot at the 16th as he salvaged a two-under 70.

Rafael Campos gave the home fans plenty to cheer as he stormed into contention with four consecutive birdies from the second, although he lost his way on the back nine with bogeys at 12 and 14 before a late birdie at the 17th saw him return a creditable 69.

Whee Kim, Jonathan Randolph and Tim Wilkinson are the other players two off the lead, while former Ryder Cup player Boo Weekley moved to 11 under with Sam Saunders, the grandson of Arnold Palmer, is one further adrift.
