Hole-by-hole analysis of Tiger Woods' third round in the Bahamas

NASSAU, BAHAMAS - DECEMBER 02: Tiger Woods of the United States plays a shot from a bunker on the fifth hole during the third round of the Hero World Chal

After an encouraging first two days on his return to competitive golf, Tiger Woods stumbled to an erratic three-over 75 in the third round. Here is how his round unfolded ...

Hole 1

Wayward opening drive finds the sandy waste area, short with second, poor chip, misses from 12 feet for par. BOGEY

Hole 2

Solid tee shot and an outside birdie chance, but settles for a two-putt. PAR

Hole 3

Perfect drive, misses green with second. Duffed chip comes up short, good second chip but blocked par putt from three feet. BOGEY

Hole 4

Good drive finds edge of fairway, second catches the green but birdie putt never looks likely to drop. PAR

Hole 5

Carved his tee shot into the sand to the right of the green, but makes good up-and-down from there to make three after splashing to six feet. PAR

Hole 6

Scrappy hole. Missed fairway, lays up into right rough, flies green with his third into bad lie, chips over flag to fringe, two putts. BOGEY

Hole 7

Attempts to drive the green 344 yards away but it finds run-off area. Another poor chip fails to make the green, and he needs three more to get down. BOGEY.

Hole 8

Good strike at the long par three but ball gets held up in the wind. Not the best of chips, but he nails the par-saving putt to avoid further damage to his card. PAR

Hole 9

Perfect drive sets up the chance to go for the green in two and emulate Friday's eagle, but he blocks his second into a greenside bunker. Splash-out creeps off the back of the green, pitch pulls up four feet short, but he makes the putt. PAR

Hole 10

Drilled three-wood off the tee leaves him just 166 yards for his second, but it comes up well short. Pitches over the bunker to 12 feet, but par putt misses. BOGEY

Hole 11

Drive way right into the bushes, hacks back out to fairway, hammers third to front fringe. First putt from 70 feet is 10 feet short, but he gets the putt to drop. PAR

Hole 12

Solid tee shot to front edge of the green, safe two-putt for par, but still no birdies. PAR

Hole 13

Another missed fairway, pulling his drive left into the sandy waste area, but a good second to 10 feet sets up good birdie chance, but putt was left all the way. PAR

Hole 14

Aggressive play with the driver at the 303-yard par-four, well-struck but just short to leave a tricky pitch with little green to work with. Chip wanders 10 feet long, but the putt is dead centre. BIRDIE, and a doff of the hat with a bow!

Hole 15

Another drive finds the sandy 'native area' forcing him to lay up with his second. Nice third from 126 yards lands close to the pin but spins back too much, and Tiger's 15-footer for birdie slides by on the left. PAR

Hole 16

Perfect drive backed up by a nice approach to 10 feet, but he again reads too much break into the putt and the chance goes begging. PAR

Hole 17

Probably Tiger's best swing of the day as he launches a seven-iron to eight feet at the 173-yard par-three. It's a slippery, downhill putt for birdie, but he makes it to get back to four under. BIRDIE

Hole 18

Another good swing, this time with the driver, finds the short grass and he knocks a decent second to 20 feet. The birdie chance looked really good, but it grazes the edge and stays out. PAR
