Jamie Donaldson makes the first hole-in-one of 2018 at SA Open

Jamie Donaldson had the honour of making the first televised hole-in-one on the European Tour in 2018 as he nailed a perfect shot during the opening round of the BMW SA Open.

The Welshman had just hauled himself back to level par for the day with two birdies in three holes when he arrived on the tee at the 152-yard 14th hole at Glendower.

And, seconds later, he had suddenly leapt to two under par as he took dead aim at the pin with a smooth nine-iron, his ball pitching just a foot to the right of the target and spinning straight into the cup.

Donaldson clearly enjoyed the celebrations with his playing partners, although he almost caught his caddie unawares when he tossed his club back to his bagman, and there was almost a double-ace moments later when Jacques Kruyswijk came within a foot of spinning his tee-shot back into the hole.
