Rory McIlroy commits to Travelers Championship return in June

Rory McIlroy has confirmed he will return to TPC River Highlands to play in the Travelers Championship in June.
McIlroy made his debut in the Connecticut event last year and finished a creditable tied for 17th after making the cut with nothing to spare, firing a final-round 64 to finish on six under par while using his third different putter of the week.
The four-time major champion will make the short trip to Cromwell following the US Open at Shinnecock Hills, and he is looking forward to the challenge of taking on one of the toughest courses on the PGA Tour.
In a statement issued by tournament organisers, McIlroy said: "I made the comment after last year's tournament that I would definitely be back, and I'm delighted that my 2018 schedule will allow me to do that.
"I love everything about the Travelers Championship; the golf course, the positive impact it has on the community and the support we receive from the fans."
Andy Bessette, executive vice president and chief administrative officer at Travelers, added: "We loved having Rory play in last year's Travelers Championship, and we're so thankful and excited that he's decided to come back.
"Rory had so many wonderful things to say about his experience, especially when it came to the fans. I know they'll be rooting for him to have another great week this June."
McIlroy was six shots behind champion Jordan Spieth last year in one of the most thrilling finishes of the season, with Spieth holing a spectacular bunker escape to beat Daniel Berger in a sudden-death play-off.
