Jason Dufner produced an amazing escape on the rocks of the 'Alcatraz' during the final round of the 2016 CareerBuilder Challenge

Jason Dufner returns to this week's CareerBuilder Challenge as defending champion, a year on from producing to a moment of magic to claim a dramatic win.

Dufner ended his long winless run on the PGA Tour with victory in California, but had one moment of magic to thank for lifting the trophy.

The American went into the final day with a two-shot advantage but had seen that disappear by the time he made his way to the 17th, an island par-3 dubbed "Alcatraz" for the huge boulders that surround it.

Hopes of victory had appeared in doubt when Dufner's wayward tee shot ended up in the dirt and rocks a long way away from the green, only narrowly avoiding bouncing into the water, but what followed brought huge cheers from the crowd on the Stadium Course.

Despite his feet being precariously balanced and with minimal area to swing, Dufner sent his chip out of trouble and racing towards the flag, almost holing out for an unlikely birdie.
