Indeed, in the very first game, Siphiwe Tshabalala had the hosts in vuvuzela heaven as his lashed finished saw Bafana Bafana take the lead against Mexico. Having seen his side outclassed by Mexico in a goalless first half of their World Cup opener, Tshabalala sparks wild scenes of celebration by powering into the penalty area and putting the hosts in front with a sweetly-struck left-footed effort.
Mesut Ozil (Germany) v Ghana, Group Stage
Philipp Lahm and Thomas Muller combine on the right wing with the young forward sending the ball inside to Ozil, who takes a touch before catching everyone off guard with a perfectly flighted left-footed rocket.
Fabio Quagliarella (Italy) v Slovakia, Group Stage
With his side 3-1 down and heading out of the World Cup, substitute Quagliarella, with little on in front of him, produces one of the classiest chip shots you will see to reduce the deficit with three minutes of injury-time left.
David Villa (Spain) v Honduras, Group Stage
Pulled out on the left flank, Villa takes down Gerard Pique's inch-perfect diagonal ball before charging goalwards, slipping past two defenders with a subtle swing of the hips, rounding another defender and firing into the top-right corner.

Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo suffers a rush of blood to the head and races off his line to clear the ball at least 30 yards from goal, only for it to fall to master marksman Villa who hits it first time, left-footed, from 50 yards and into the gaping net.
Maicon (Brazil) v North Korea, Group Stage
With the unknown quantity that was North Korea putting up stubborn resistance, the Brazil full-back drives forward with typical dynamism before smashing the ball home with a hard, low drive from an acute angle. Did he mean it? As a Brazilian, he has to have the benefit of the doubt.
Carlos Tevez (Argentina) v Mexico, Last 16
Having already scored a clearly offside goal, Tevez manages one to be proud of with a typically no-nonsense long-range rocket which flies into the net and wraps up the win for his side.
Asamoah Gyan (Ghana) v United States, Last 16
Shows startling strength to withstand Carlos Bocanegra's hefty barge and latch onto a long ball early in extra-time, before going on to lash home a left-footed shot.
Javier Hernandez (Mexico) v Argentina, Last 16
With his side trailing 3-0 and heading home, Old Trafford-bound youngster Hernandez gives Manchester United fans something to get excited about with a subtle but brilliant goal, creating space like a veteran goal poacher, controlling cleverly and dispatching coolly.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Holland) v Uruguay, Semi-final
Holland captain Van Bronckhorst, set to retire after the tournament, collects the ball from Demy De Zeeuw from deep in his left-back position. Having steadied himself and with Uruguay slow to close him down, 'Gio' unleashes a rising rocket past Fernando Muslera and into the top right-hand corner.

The goal scored by Maicon from an acute angle cannot and should not be consider a luck. Whether Brazillian or not, the guy was aiming for a goal which and he got it from a very tight angle. Goal-getters will take all of the opportunities he can to get his goal. Brazil didn't win the Cup de Monde, but we as fans of the Samba Boys saw the quality they are made off. Go Brazil as the world await you guys at the next soccer festival. Brazil today! Brazil tomorrow! Brazil forever!

Siphiwe Tshabalala's goal should def be on that list John. You try running at that pace & striking it cleaner... Gimme a break! And Forlan's free kick might be included yes, but the others NO! The first one was deflected in against SA & the goal against Holland was hit straight down the middle & swerved, keeper was unsighted so it had an element of luck attached to it. Great strike but not a classic.

John Hector obviously doesn't know a lot about football!!! Tshabalala's goal was fantastic and deserves a mention. Not only for the rocket into the top corner ... but also for the slick and accurate build up. However, I agree that Forlan should be listed too. He was superb.
