Sir Mo Farah to run final track race in Birmingham

Sir Mo Farah will compete for the final time on a British track at the Diamond League meeting in Birmingham on August 20.

The four-time Olympic champion had been expected to bring the curtain down on his track career at the World Championships in London earlier next month but he will now race again a week later at the Muller Grand Prix.

Farah is bidding to retain his 5,000 and 10,000 metres titles in London. It has not been announced over what distance he will be competing at the Alexander Stadium.

The 34-year-old, who is planning to focus on the marathon in the future, said: "I'm really looking forward to what will be my final track race in Britain and I'm sure it will be a day I remember for the rest of my life.

"The get the opportunity to say goodbye to the track in front of a British crowd is something that means a lot to me and I hope I can take everything in.

"I've run many great races at the Alexander Stadium over the years, and I have a history there, so it's a fitting venue for my last track race.

"I've had fantastic support throughout my career from people all over the UK, and the atmosphere in Birmingham is always amazing, so I'll be looking for a good final performance to thank the fans for all their support over the years."
