Jessica Ennis-Hill proved her form in no uncertain style with victory in the heptathlon at the Stadtwerke Ratingen Mehrkampf-Meeting in Germany.

Ennis-Hill has been missing for much of the season with an Achilles injury but she produced her best score - 6,733 points - since London 2012 in the seven-event competition.

The points haul is the second best of the season, 32 points adrift of the 6,765 Canada's Brianne Theisen-Eaton managed in winning the prestigious Gotzis meeting which Ennis-Hill was forced to miss.

Theisen Eaton and defending champion Ennis-Hill are the likely favourites for the Olympic Games heptathlon in Rio, which takes place on August 12 and 13.

The 30-year-old had not competed in a heptathlon since winning World Championship gold in Beijing last year, and she overcame some poor conditions to put up an impressive display.

Ennis-Hill led comfortably after Saturday's four events, with performances in the 200m (23.36s) and shot put (14.29m) that were her best since the last Olympic Games.

Her improvement continued in the long jump, Sunday's opening event, when she leapt out to a big personal best of 6.63m, while the javelin saw Ennis-Hill close to her season's best with a throw of 44.37m.
