The New York Rangers successfully forced Game Seven in their Eastern Conference semi-final as they beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1.

The Rangers had trailed 3-1 in the series but two consecutive wins have put them on the brink of a comeback never achieved before in franchise history.

Martin St Louis opened the scoring in the first period and Carl Hagelin doubled the advantage before Brandon Sutter got one back for the Penguins.

Derick Brassard then completed the scoring in the second as the Rangers set up a decider in Pittsburgh on Tuesday night.

In the Western Conference, the defending champion Chicago Blackhawks claimed a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Wild to take a 3-2 lead in their series.

Erik Haula put the Wild ahead in the first period but a powerplay goal from Bryan Bickell in the second tied it up and Jonathan Toews bagged the winner in the the final stanza.
