Good Week/Bad Week: A glance back over the last week of sport

There have been defeats, drug accusations and a cigar-smoking Spaniard that have grabbed the sporting headlines this week.

Carl Froch This weekend saw Carl Froch dominate the ring in his hometown of Nottingham as he retained his IBF super-middleweight title with true class, stopping Yusaf Mack in the third round. The CapitalFM Arena came alive as 'The Cobra' showed what he could do, in complete control from the first round where he knocked the American down to kick things off. The result was already set though with Froch stopping Mack with two body shots in the third-round. Miguel Angel Jimenez Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez created history this week as he became the oldest winner in European Tour history at the Hong Kong Open. The cigar-wielding golfer is 48 years and 318 days old, meaning he is 284 days older than Des Smyth was in 2001 when he won at the Madeira Islands Open. Jimenez secured a one-shot victory margin over Sweden's Fredrik Andersson Hed, leading him to a hat-trick of Hong Kong titles, as he also won the event in 2005 and 2008.

Bad Week...

England rugby Not only did England lose 20-14 against an under-par Australia at Twickenham, but their new purple kit did not go down greatly with the English faithful either. Having begun the autumn series with great momentum and a 10-try win over Fiji last week, Stuart Lancaster's men have now got a huge task ahead of them. They face South Africa and New Zealand in the coming weeks and the pressure is most definitely on, particularly as their hopes of being among the top seeds for the 2015 Rugby World Cup are gradually fading ahead of the draw on December 3. QPR It was another bad week for Queens Park Rangers boss Mark Hughes as his side fell to a 3-1 defeat to struggling Southampton on Saturday at Loftus Road. The 'must-win' game for both sides left Rangers firmly bolted to the bottom of the Premier League, having taken only four points from 12 games. Without securing a single league victory, Hughes has an almighty challenge on his hands if he is to see his men begin to climb, even a little way, above the dreaded relegation zone. England cricket It was a powerful victory for India; a significant defeat for England. India secured initial bragging rights in the Test series with England after a nine-wicket victory on day five in Ahmedabad. After Matt Prior and Alistair Cook had given England a glimmer of hope on day four, it looked as though the tourists could make a small impact. Yet after they both departed to India's Pragyan Ojha, the outcome was almost set in stone for the England side. Frankie Dettori It was revealed last week that Italian-born rider Frankie Dettori is facing a France Galop inquiry this week following a 'positive test' at Longchamp in September. The 41-year-old's solicitor has since released a statement detailing how Dettori's failed test over a banned substance was not for a performance-enhancing drug.
