English rookie Justin Wilson won his first IndyCar Series in the Detroit Indy Grand Prix on Sunday. The Brit narrowly beat race favourite Helio Castroneves and series leader Scott Dixon to victory. Castroneves, who led for the majority of the race was forced to give up his lead with less than 20 laps to go as a penalty for blocking Wilson. Wilson said: "In my mind, it was so clear and obvious that something had to be done." Wilson, who was 16th place in the series standings, held the lead for the rest of the race. He now has 11 top-10 finishes entering next weeks race in Chicago The controversial decision to penalise Castroneves means that he still remains second place in the standings, 43 points behind leader Dixon. Dixon will need to finish eighth or higher next week to win his second title.
