Liang Wenbo has claimed the English Open title after beating Judd Trump 9-6 in the final in Manchester.

It was a maiden world ranking title for the Chinese left-hander, who turned professional in 2005.

Liang led 5-3 following the afternoon session but Trump rolled in a break of 132 in the first frame of the evening.

Trump was looking for back-to-back ranking event wins after triumphing in the European Masters but found himself 7-4 down as Liang produced breaks of 84 and 98.

The Englishman took the next two frames, making it 7-6, only for Liang, 29, to move within a frame of victory, thanks to a 62 clearance.

The next frame was really tight but Liang held his nerve, potting the last red down the cushion before clearing up the colours and celebrating a superb victory in emotional fashion.

He becomes the fourth Asian player to win a ranking event, following James Wattana, Ding Junhui and Marco Fu.
