Ronnie O’Sullivan staged a brilliant comeback to beat Stephen Maguire in the first round of snooker’s World Championship on Sunday.

World No 2 O'Sullivan had lost the first four frames then trailed 6-3 at the conclusion of the first session on Saturday.

But he was revitalised in the second session, taking advantage of Maguire missing a red on 49 to quickly level the score at 6-6.

O'Sullivan led for the first time at 8-7, then a break of 77 sent him further clear, before he confirmed a place in the next round.
