UFC president Dana White does not see a future for Anthony Pettis at featherweight after he missed weight for his interim title bout with Max Holloway at UFC 206 in Toronto on Saturday.

Former lightweight champion Pettis is competing in his second bout at featherweight but weighed in at 148lbs on Friday, three pounds above the weight limit.

Conor McGregor relinquished his featherweight title last week with Jose Aldo being named as the promotion's champion and Pettis (19-5) and Holloway (16-3) given the opportunity to fight for an interim belt and the right to face Aldo in 2017.

However, White admits that if Pettis defeats Holloway, he will be reluctant to book him in another featherweight bout after his failure to make the weight.

White told Canadian outlet TSN: "Anthony Pettis didn't make weight. So now what happens is he loses 20 per cent of his purse and if he wins it is not a title fight.

"If he wins, he will not be the [interim] title holder. If Max Holloway wins, he will be the interim champion.

"If Pettis wins, I have got to decide if I want him to fight for the 145lb title. I don't know if he can make the weight."

White, however, holds no ill will towards Pettis, insisting he is satisfied he did everything in his power to cut the weight.

"Believe me when I tell you Anthony Pettis wanted to make weight," White said. "He has been working for months for this date.

"When he landed here in Toronto he was ten pounds [over the weight limit] so he should have made the weight.

"What that tells you is he is too old and he is too big to make that weight, in my opinion. We will see where we go from here."
