Nyck De Vries took victory in the F2 Sprint Race at the French GP

McLaren junior moves up to third in the championship; Lando Norris extends lead over George Russell

Nyck De Vries took victory in another action-packed F2 race at the French GP to move himself up to third in the championship standings.

The McLaren junior showed fantastic overtaking skills as he carved his way through the field, with Turn Eight his preferred overtaking spot.

The move for the lead even saw the Prema driver go all the way around the outside of Louis Deletraz to take the position into the chicane.

Luca Ghiotto completed the podium for Campos, just two tenths of a second behind Deletraz at the chequered flag.

For the British drivers the race was a mixed affair.

Lando Norris charged through the field from 16th on the grid to finish fifth and extend his championship lead.

That was after his main rival George Russell was pushed off the grid with a throttle issue and he lost two laps before ART were able to send his car back into the race.

As for the other title contenders, Norris finished ahead of team-mate Sergio Sette Camara who was sixth and Alexander Albon who was seventh, while Artem Markelov stalled at the start and finished 14th.

Nicholas Latifi was the early race leader, but his pace dropped off dramatically as he slipped down the order. He then hit the rear of Norris after being overtaken by the Carlin and limped around the final lap with a damaged front wing.

With no front downforce the Canadian made use of Paul Ricard's vast run-off areas to get to the line, but the stewards are likely to look into the numerous shortcuts he took, leaving his eighth place in question.

After the race Arjun Maini launched an incredible tirade over the radio, saying he wasn't support him and he wanted to quit F2. He later revealed this was due to frustrations at on-going engine issues.
