Team Bath into Vitality Superleague Final Four despite final-day defeat
Tuesday 6 June 2017 10:34, UK
Team Bath qualified for the Vitality Superleague Final Four despite losing on a dramatic last day of the regular season.
Bath went into the weekend with a three-point lead over Surrey Storm and needed a win to guarantee their place in the top four.
However, Bath were not able to make sure of their spot as they were beaten 49-35 by second-placed Wasps on Saturday.
That left the door open for Storm to leapfrog Bath with a victory over league leaders Loughborough Lightning.
Storm were in touch at 36-31 behind at half-time but could not close the gap as they were beaten 71-63, meaning they finished fifth.
Elsewhere, Manchester Thunder finished third after beating Severn Stars 60-45 and Celtic Dragons ended on a winning note as they beat Team Northumbria 52-47. Sirens Netball completed their debut Superleague season with a 57-43 win over Hertfordshire Mavericks on Thursday.
The Final Four takes place on the weekend of June 10-11, with the semi-finals on Saturday and the final on Sunday.
Loughborough Lightning face Team Bath in the first semi-final at 4pm before Wasps Netball take on Manchester Thunder. Both games are live on Sky Sports Mix.
