Wasps Netball land host of star names including Sophia Candappa and Samantha May

Wasps Netball have announced the arrivals of Sophia Candappa, George Fisher, Amy Flanagan, Josie Huckle and Samantha May.

Wasps were confirmed as one of three new entrants to the Vitality Superleague for the 2017 season earlier this summer and signalled their intent by securing the services of Tamsin Greenway as director of netball, leaving the same position she held with Surrey Storm.

And Greenway has made her mark by capturing Fisher and May from Hertfordshire Mavericks and bringing in five players from her old franchise, including Candappa, Flanagan and Huckle, who all starred for the Storm last season as they captured their second successive Superleague title.

Fisher is a hugely exciting capture. The 17-year-old attacker played for England U17s at just 14 years of age and is completing the final year of her studies at college.

After impressing for Mavericks last year, she makes the move to Wasps alongside Aussie defender May, who was outstanding for Hertfordshire last season.

Five players arrive from Storm with Hannah Reid and Francesca Williams joining the all-star trio of Candappa, Flanagan and Huckle, while talented GA/WA Lucy Harris arrives from Yorkshire Jets, completing an early round of recruitment that has delighted Greenway.

"Wasps have made it plain that they want their new netball team to be a major force in the game and being able to assemble a squad from scratch has been hugely exciting," Greenway said.

"I think it's fair to say that the announcement about the formation of Wasps Netball has captivated people across the sport - and I expect today's signings will do the same.

"Obviously, the only thing which really matters is results on the court and how we fare during what is bound to be a competitive season, but I am extremely excited by the signings we have made so far - and don't forget there will be more to come."

Wasps start training for the new season in October and still have four spaces to fill the squad for 2017 with the club's chief executive officer David Armstrong adding: "We're delighted to be able to put together such a competitive squad that fits within the league's salary cap.

"We're confident these signings will generate a real buzz amongst netball fans in the Midlands as we build up to our first league match."
