England coach Tracey Neville gave her reaction to the defeat in the first Test against Jamaica at the Copper Box Arena

Tracey Neville admitted decision-making and a lack of desire let England down in their opening Vitality International Series defeat to Jamaica.

Despite an impressive opening quarter, the Roses lost their way in the second as Jamaica turned a four-goal deficit into a four-goal advantage by half-time.

Head Coach Neville was left to reflect on what might have been as despite some impressive shooting from Joanne Harten, their attacking play did not do their defensive work justice.

"The right seven started but there were two critical times in that first half that got Jamaica back into the game - and we handed them the victory," Neville told Sky Sports.

"In the first quarter when we could have took the game on to a 10-goal lead we missed some crucial shots.

"In the second quarter the ball work around the circle edge had no clarity on ball placement and the last five minutes absolutely destroyed us going into the second half.

"I have said to our attack all the time you have to reward these defenders and at times we didn't do that."

Highlights of the first Netball Test between England and Jamaica from the Copper Box Arena

Rather than make a host of changes, the team will be given the chance to make amends on Friday in the second Test at Manchester's Belle Vue where a win will be vital to taking the series to a decider.

"What was disappointing from our team was the way they gave up towards the end and I don't think they should wear an England dress if they are going to give up - that was disappointing as they have always gone to the end but their heads went down and that was upsetting to see from an England player," Neville added.

"It's about rectifying the wrongs and giving those second chances. I'm a believer in second chances and the video will open up a lot of space for them and clarification on things they were not sure of in the game.

"They are visual learners and want to learn from their mistakes and want to do something about it

"We said that we have made a progression over this camp and we have but in the second half under pressure we needed to take that progression on.

"The second test is a new game and a new start. You don't penalise players, they are talented players and can be world-class players so now can they come out and right the wrongs."

You can watch England v Jamaica in the second test on Friday from 7.30pm on Sky Sports 3 and Sky Sports Mix.
