The Jacksonville Jaguars have named Blake Bortles as their starting quarterback for the start of the regular season.

Coach Doug Marrone confirmed his decision on Saturday, a week after opening the position up to competition and giving Chad Henne a chance to unseat Bortles.

Henne started their third pre-season game, completing eight of 14 passes for 78 yards before handing over to Bortles.

Bortles impressed in spells and completed 12 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown, although he did also throw an interception in the 24-23 defeat at home to the Carolina Panthers.

He has started every Jaguars game since week four of the 2014 season, which was his first in the NFL after being selected with the third overall pick.

Henne, who started 22 games for the Jaguars from 2012-2014, has been Bortles' back-up since then and will continue in that role when their 2017 season opens at the Houston Texans on September 10.
