Buffalo Bills linebacker Reggie Ragland could miss season with knee injury

Buffalo Bills rookie linebacker Reggie Ragland needs surgery to repair a torn left knee ligament and may miss the season.
The Bills provided the one-sentence update on Wednesday.
The announcement came a day after coach Rex Ryan said it's possible that Ragland had a torn ligament. He added the medical staff couldn't make an exact determination until the swelling subsided.
Ragland was hurt during practice on Friday while going after the ball carrier. He pulled up and went to the ground without being hit.
Buffalo's second-round draft pick out of Alabama was projected to start at one of the two inside linebacker positions.
The Bills have signed veteran linebackers Brandon Spikes and David Hawthorne to shore up their injury-depleted roster.
It's a second chance in Buffalo for Spikes, who played for the Bills in 2014. And it's an opportunity for him to resume his career after sitting out last season.
Spikes was sentenced to a year of probation in July 2015 after pleading guilty in a hit-and-run crash that injured three people. The crash led to Spikes being released by New England only a few weeks after he signed with the Patriots.
